Monday spent wondering Central Park and taking it all in. I do not know what it is about Central Park that always reminds me of how beautiful New York is beneath the madness of the City. Its like a secret getaway from it all. As I sit here in ‘Alices Cafe’ a small vintage cafe off Central Park. My plan is to share my experience as an intern in Marc Jacobs through my eyes.
Starting this blog post off I want to be real with you. The ‘Fashion Industry’ is not all glam and if there is any it is always only after ALOT of all nighters and long days!! Its a really hard, fast pace environment which is one of the hardest businesses to get respected in. Its cut throat and that is something you are thought when you get into your first year of studying fashion design in college. You have to first of all, really ‘Love It’ and second of all really ‘Want It’.- Passion and Determination!
This is something I feel a lot of young girls forget about when they apply for the course. But if you have both of them it is 100% for you!!
DIARY #1 MONTH
One month in already?? It really is crazy how fast time goes over here.
Every morning starts at 9am and finishes at 5.30pm with a half hour for lunch break. Days go by very quickly. There are four interns in the Sample Room altogether all from different colleges in Europe and America.
My daily tasks would vary each day. From working with the production room manager all day she sets us with various tasks such as going to mid town Manhattan to meet the factories that produce Marc Jacobs where we ‘Drop Off’ and ‘Pick Up’ Garments, Patterns , Fabric, Zips, sourcing trims. I love doing the mid town runs it really makes you feel like your in the thick of the industry and learning loads about the business side of the industry.
The environment in Marc Jacobs is incredible everyone is so helpful and kind…and how could I forget the major perks of the job ‘The Sample Sale’ with some prices starting at $15 for a Marc Jacob laptop case..it really is just MIND Blowing!! Tomorrow Tuesday will be our last of four sample sales altogether. ( lets just say I might need to book an extra two suit cases on the way home.
But it still won’t beat the prices. I will be sharing everything I pick up over on my (snap indieirishblog )
If you are interested in finding out more on the Intern Opportunities at Marc Jacobs all the available positions will be on their website – Job Opportunities.
