Interning with Marc Jacobs in New York City….So maybe dreams do come true.  But it wasn’t all my dreaming that got me this internship, Hard work has to take a lot of the credit….Then dreaming.

If you are familiar with my first previous college post about this program one of the main reasons I was so excited about coming to LSAD was the amazing opportunity the college has with the internship program our students go too. I honestly applied for Marc Jacobs thinking it would get thrown aside as they have so many people applying daily. But when I got an email back asking for an interview I was in tears. I then thought the interview went horrible and forgot about the job all together. But then a few days went and I got the news.

That whole experience definitely thought me that you never know what your interviewer thinks so you should alway stay positive in whatever situation you are in, even if you think its going horrible.

How I applied – In our college program we take 3 months off for an internship program with a designer and it is counted as part of our college credits for 3rd year. We design our own website with all of our previous projects sketch book work, Illustration/Colour/Texture boards, Technical samples photographed. Bio about ourselves and CV. I then saw that they were looking for interns on there online website and applied.

The Interview- To say I was nervous would be an understatement. I can not stress how important it is to prepare for an interview. The main points I would had written out and researched before were…

  • What is the brand about? Main Ethos/ What do they stand for.
  • Designer Him/Herself ? Where he studied /Grew up around.
  • What can you bring to the brand?
  • What type of person are you? ( Make sure if you say reliable/Use your own initiative etc… you can tell them a story of when you did it in the workplace)
  • ……and BREATH!!! You have to remember they just want someone normal who isn’t going to be nervous or shy in the workplace… Be Yourself!
  • Always send then an email after your interview to your interviewer, and once again say how much it means to you and thank them for taking their time.

What will I be doing / When I am starting–  My position will be working in the Sample Room as a Production Intern.  I won’t be 100% sure until I get there what my exact jobs will be, so Im not going to talk about that just yet. But I will be blogging and recording the whole experience as I go. I will be doing a total of 4 and a half months, starting the 10th of April and finishing in mid August.

One thing my dad thought me was to never let anyone tell you your dreams are to big,

and always believe in your own ability.
